RESEARCH: Do Stolen base attempts lead to injuries?

At First Pitch Arizona this past November, during the “Would You Rather” edition, the topic was raised to whether stolen bases led to injuries. In my notes, I wrote “Are SB injury risks? Article? ***”. With so much information being presented over those three days, I don’t remember the exact details, but with three stars next to it, it must have been important. I asked the panel members if they remembered any details, but none did. So, with a vague start, it’s time to take a deeper look.

The general concept makes sense: As a player attempts more steals, he may more likely be injured in the sliding process. The hard rubber bases have jammed many a thumb over the years. With my injury database, I investigated to see if high stolen base...
