RESEARCH: Hit-by-pitch frequency as a predictor of injury

Batters getting hit by a pitch is a fairly common occurrence—about one every other game. Most of the time, the hitter just takes the base and nothing more becomes of it as far as we know. In a few instances, the hitter is hurt seriously enough that they are forced to miss some time, such as when the Tigers’ Nick Castellanos hit the DL with a broken hand. Even more frustrating are instances of hitters who continue to play, but struggle. Fantasy owners don’t know for sure if the struggles are injury-related or the batter is just "off."
