RESEARCH: Managing your categories to victory

Billy Beane famously breaks a season into thirds. For the first two months, he figures out what he has. During the middle two months, he makes his moves.

Then in the last two, he kicks back and lets the boys play.

If Beane were a rotisserie fantasy manager, he’d no doubt change the last phase to "manage the categories to a championship".

We rotisserie players are at the point of the fantasy season where our focus should be turning to the categories: Where can we gain points? Where can we lose? Where do we have surpluses or irredeemable deficits?

Be it via trade, free agent/waiver acquisition or reserve list management, it’s all about the categories.
