RESEARCH: Park changes in SD, SEA (pitchers)

A couple of weeks ago, BaseballHQ.com’s Research & Analysis article looked at the effects that moving the fences in at San Diego's PETCO Park and Seattle's Safeco Field might have on batters.

In this edition of BHQ R&A, we look at the pitchers, to see how we might want to adjust our 2013 expectations.

Summary of changes

At PETCO in SD:

  • The left- and right-field power alleys will be brought in 12’ to 390’ (the right field alley had already been brought in from 411’ when the park opened to 402’)
  • The right-field fence from the middle of the “short porch” to right-center will be brought in 10’
  • Straightaway right will be reduced by 11’ to 364’ and the wall height reduced from 10’ to 8’
