Over the last few years, BaseballHQ.com introduced and incorporated a combined batter metric called “Hard Contact Index” (HctX), combining how often a batter puts the ball into play with how hard he puts the ball into play.
The idea, which has been borne out, is that HctX would be a handy single go-to metric to determine how likely a batter is to have good results, because the metric combines two obvious core skills of batting success.
Then it struck us that if a high HctX was a positive indicator for a batter, a low HctX against might be a good indicator for a pitcher. So in this edition of BHQ’s Research & Analysis, we check:
