A few weeks ago we looked at the performance of aging hitters. This article looks at aging pitchers.
Understanding how pitchers age can be important in fantasy, given the number of seniors on the mound who can—and have—offered premium results.
Bartolo Colón will be 41 this year, and is coming off $9 and $19 seasons the last two years. Hiroki Kuroda is 39, and is coming off four straight seasons of $15 5x5 value, including a $21 season in 2012.
And greybeards aren’t just starting pitchers. Two bullpen stars hit 39 this year: Koji Uehara, who earned $26 in an outstanding season, and Joe Nathan, who tied for fifth among MLB saves leaders, and had a 1.39/0.90 line that helped him to a $27 value.
