RESEARCH: Spring training stats

This spring on the BaseballHQ Radio podcast, we’ve been asking our feature guests how much attention they pay to Spring Training (ST) stats. Most of them have responded by saying something like, “Not much,” with one, Peter Kreutzer, saying, “None at all.”
That no fantasy expert puts stock in ST stats should give all players pause before they take a different path. But what if these experts are wrong? What if there is something to spring training?
We decided to check it out. And we found that, at least for HR and SB, the experts are right.
Method
Our method was straightforward: We looked at ST stats for each of the last three seasons (2010-12) and noted the Top 10 plus ties in both HR and SB. We also calculated each springtime leader’s...
