RESEARCH: What is a save worth?

Joe Nathan (RHP, DET) recorded 35 saves in 2014, but that came with a 4.81 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP—numbers that would likely be category killers on their own. But context is everything, and saves are very valuable commodity, right? But just how valuable are they? What would you be willing to sacrifice for some saves. How much ERA and WHIP does a player need before his saves just aren't worth it any more?
