MINORS: 2014 top SP prospects

This week we continue our annual review of the top prospects in baseball by position. Up this week are the starting pitchers—historically one of the deepest positions in the minors, and this year is no exception. In last June’s amateur draft, 20 of the 37 first round picks were pitchers and exactly half of the prospects on the HQ100 are starting pitchers.

While there is a good deal of pitching, there isn’t a clear-cut fantasy stud for 2014. Some scouts and analysts are very high on the Yankees Masahiro Tanaka, and he does have good stuff, but he’s unlikely to be the next Yu Darvish and even Darvish had modest results in his first year in the majors.
