MINORS: Finding next year's prospects today

Scouting Comes First
It is commonly understood that when evaluating minor league talent for fantasy league play, we should pay more attention to scouting reports than to results on the field. After all, perhaps that highly touted Double-A pitcher has been told to throw nothing but curve balls for a few innings so he can continue to get a feel for it. The fact that he gave up a lot of hits or struggled with his control in that one outing tells us little about his actual talent level. If the scouts refer to his smooth delivery and two above-average pitches across multiple viewings, we know to ignore that ugly ERA and WHIP and wait for better days.

On the other hand, you might run into a corner outfielder who is smashing the ball left...

Almost!
