In this era of bullpens chock full of power arms and specialists, hitters like Miguel Cabrera (3B, DET) that can punish pitchers regardless of what arm they're throwing with is becoming more and more rare. For many hitters, it's a matter of holding their own against same-sided pitchers in order to stay in the lineup every day, while teeing off against the others. When it comes to the fourth outfielders and utilitymen in the league, their offensive value generally rests on their ability to thrive against either righties or lefties. The end result is more opportunities for a larger group of players to make an offensive impact, thereby offering ancillary options for fantasy owners looking for an edge.
