Fantasy owners must consider many factors when deciding on batters to acquire. Over the last few seasons, another factor has taken on considerable weight: A batter’s eligibility at multiple positions.
A change in major-league baseball roster composition has affected this issue coming and going. Teams used to carry 13 or 14 hitters and 11 or 12 pitchers, but they now tend to carry more pitchers. This obviously thins the pool of available batters, while also requiring big-league teams to carry batters who can handle multiple positional responsibilities.
