Early bench targets, 2026

As with starting pitchers, fantasy managers often overvalue Opening Day lineups. As such, bats who start the season on the bench often can be rostered at a nice discount. Especially those with hidden or emerging skills, since they are likely to carve out full-time roles once an opportunity arises.

Here are more than 40 bats on MLB benches or in Triple-A who could provide value once an MLB roster spot opens up.


AMERICAN LEAGUE

Max Anderson (2B, DET) is a high-contact prospect who hit 19 HR in 552 PA in the upper minors during 2025. While his stats this spring were good (.313 BA), he made tons of soft contact (86.5 mph EV), most of it on the ground (0.8 LA).
