Teams change closers all the time. Sometimes, a guy gets hurt or goes through a tough patch to start a season and that's all it takes. Sometimes, someone just emerges as a better option. In any event, teams have contingency plans—let's roll through some scenarios while we wait for pitchers and catchers to report. (All statistics are current BaseballHQ.com projections.)
The Diamondbacks closer is J.J.Putz (RHP) and while he is effective when healthy, he has missed time in the past—including some games in 2011—and remains a health risk for 2012. Here are three potential options behind Putz:
