RELIEVERS: Preliminary look at 2020

This week, the column moves into 2020. Bullpens are not a lot of innings, so there is a lot of volatility in the results, even if there is not as much volatility in the skill set. You can see that this year just with the difference between Edwin Díaz (RHP, NYM) in 2018 and in 2019. A lot of times, that volatility comes from home runs allowed or home runs prevented. This week, there are three groupings of relievers for your attention. The first, is a set of closers who nailed it in 2019 and what you might expect for 2020. The second is a set of closers who showed terrific skill sets, but had some home run issues that could conceivably portend a better 2020. The third is a set of non-closers that you should be interested in.
