DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: AL Central—Hosmer heating up

Kansas City Royals

After Eric Hosmer’s (1B, KC) mediocre 2012 sophomore season, there were questions about his long-term offensive potential. He started slowly this year as well, with a .250/.337/.306 slash line through May 1. He didn’t hit his second HR until June 13. However, he has quietly turned his season around. From June 1 through July 7 he hit .313/.352/.552 with 8 HR/22 RBI/4 SB in 134 AB. BaseballHQ.com now projects Hosmer to finish with 18 HR/72 RBIs/.280 BA/13 SB which is in line with his rookie season stats. At age 23, Hosmer looks like he could be a fixture in the KC lineup for a long time.

Veteran Bruce Chen (LHP, KC)is taking over Luis Mendoza’s (RHP, KC) rotation spot after Mendoza went 2-5 with a 4.87 ERA in 16 starts....
