Entering the 2019 season, the conventional wisdom suggested Wily Peralta (RHP, KC) might reprise his role from 2018 as the closer and former closer Brad Boxberger (RHP, KC) might work his way into the ninth inning role if Peralta’s peripherals trended in the wrong direction. With Peralta posting a 7.07/6.19 ERA/xERA through the first month and a 7/9 K/BB ratio through 14 innings pitched, one could imagine the job was Boxberger’s for the taking. Well, he hasn’t taken it, posting an unsightly 7.30/5.13 ERA/xERA of his own over 12.1 innings pitched.
