The imminent return from the injured list of DJ Stewart (OF, BAL) is coming at an opportune time for the outfielder to try to reassert his claim to significant playing time.

Stewart will be rejoining a roster that at least temporarily does not include Austin Hays (OF, BAL) due to a hamstring strain.

To refresh readers’ memories, Stewart came into spring in the proverbial “best shape of his life,” had a two-home-run game early in preseason play and then promptly went down with a hamstring injury of his own.

Stewart had profound contact struggles in the shortened 2020 season, but as analyst Stephen Nickrand noted in the preseason, there was a silver lining in his Statcast metrics (91.4 mph exit velocity, 19.2% barrel...
