The Red Sox will unveil a new-look lineup when the season opens today, but perhaps the most important player for their 2015 chances will be on the mound. As Facts/Flukes columnist Matt Gelfand noted earlier this spring, it’s “put-up-or-shut-up time” for 30-year-old Clay Buchholz (RHP, BOS), whose mental toughness and desire to be an “ace” was recently questioned by former-teammate-turned-ESPN-analyst Curt Schilling.

Buchholz did offer some evidence of being able to rise to the challenge this spring, yielding only 6 ER in 19 IP with a 22/4 K/BB. Opponents, however, had little trouble putting a bat on Buchholz’s offerings, connecting for 27 hits in 78 AB.
