PT TOMORROW: AL East—No more Cron-ic playing-time crunch in TAM?

The unexpected sequence of events that saw the Rays acquire C.J. Cron (1B, TAM) and designate Corey Dickerson (DH, FA) for assignment has thrown into flux the team’s playing time picture at 1B and DH, and perhaps elsewhere as well.

Manager Kevin Cash had previously said that Bradley Miller (1B, TAM) was the leading candidate to be the team’s first baseman in 2018, and there has been no suggestion that Cron’s acquisition has changed that assessment.

That is potentially good news for the players set to vie to serve as the Rays’ starting second baseman—Christian Arroyo (3B, TAM), Joey Wendle (2B, TAM), Daniel Robertson (2B, TAM) and Ryan Schimpf (2B, TAM)—given that Miller saw most of his action at second base in 2017.
