PT TOMORROW: AL East—Time to jettison Jeter?

Derek Jeter (SS, NYY) hit his first HR of the season May 7, raising a flicker of hope his swan song won’t feature a steady stream of sour notes. However, there are plenty of reasons to continue to be skeptical of a resurgence.

At 79%, Jeter’s contact rate is as low as it has been in his career, and when Jeter does make contact, there has been little power in the stroke (47 PX/51 xPX).

A recent analysis in a New York Newsday blog throws a couple of additional logs on the pyre of pessimism. The post noted that Jeter has seen more fastballs than an American League hitter, the suggestion being that word has spread quickly that Jeter can no longer catch up with the pitch.
