As noted in our PT Today space over the past weekend, Cory Rasmus (RHP, LAA) was the most recent rotation fill-in for injury Garrett Richards this past Saturday vs. OAK. He went only three innings as expected but Rasmus acquitted himself well, holding the A's scoreless while fanning six batters, allowing just one base-runner and setting the stage for an Angels win.

And perhaps more than this, the 26-year-old Rasmus—who has posted a fine 2.48/3.38 ERA/xERA over 40 IP—may have ensured his audition for a larger role, both for the remainder of 2014 and beyond. Now in his second MLB season, Rasmus has clearly improved secondary pitches that he continues to front with a 93 MPH fastball. The four-pitch repertoire...
