The top-to-bottom pitching injury list is arguably MLB's worst, from staff ace Justin Verlander's strained forearm through closer Roberto Osuna's (RHP, HOU) aching elbow—for which the early diagnosis is reportedly Tommy John surgery pending a second opinion. With eight HOU pitchers currently on the IL, the upshot has been nine rookie arms seeing action—seven of whom with MLB debuts. And determining what's real in a small sample rotation performance now is a daunting task.

At least to date, much better-than-expected efforts from Cristian Javier (RHP, HOU) and Framber Valdez (LHP, HOU) have both of them in the rotation over the foreseeable future. The inexperienced Javier has given up just two runs over his first 13 IP...
