RELIEVERS: 2014 LIMA skills relievers

This week, the column hunts for the best LIMA buys. Readers will recall that LIMA stands for Low Investment Mound Aces and aims to find the very best skill sets at low cost. Traditionally, the search has begun with the preseason projections filtered for skills. First, take the entire pitching population. Then remove anyone with a 13.0 BFG or higher. That leaves 343 relievers. Then use the traditional LIMA filters of no worse than 6.0 Dom, 2.0 Cmd and 1.0 HR/9. That is to ensure that no one slips away who should be in this group. That leaves a whopping 180 relievers. It was not that long ago that these filters left fewer than 50, but pitching has changed dramatically over the past few years and we too must adjust.
