RELIEVERS: First look at 2014—AL Central

This week we examine the AL Central relievers, starting in the South Side of Chicago.

The White Sox are in full-on rebuild mode at the moment. The closer position is set with Addison Reed (RHP, CHW). Nate Jones (RHP, CHW) is underrated and very strong in 2013, boding well for 2014. Well-traveled Matt Lindstrom (RHP, CHW) is just filler, and lefty Donnie Veal (LHP, CHW) and righty Ramon Troncoso (RHP, CHW) are substandard. Skills:

CHW SV IP Dom Cmd hr/9 xERA G/F BPV

A.Reed 36 63.3 9.0 4.2 0.7 3.57 33/45 115

These relievers are the ones with the best chance at profit after the first 30 relievers are taken (and after the first 125 pitchers overall) in NFBC 15-team mixed leagues.

This column covers relievers who might cost you a lot chasing saves but then fizzle out because of skills or injury risk.

This is the annual sleepers column, but let's be honest: There are no sleepers. There are relievers with great skills who are cheaper than they should be ... and that's what you want anyway.
